Default Pirate Post-Surgical Xrays and Consult

On thursday pirate went back to the vet for them to check the status of his
legs. Mike took him, which was unfortunate but I had meetintg I was running
and couldn't attend.

Apparently pirate is doing awesome (I can tell that by his rambunctious
behavior) with the elbow VERY well seated in the socket (better than the vet
expected) and the Ulnas still NOT healed. This might sound terrible but its
good - we want them to stay unhealed until Pirate is completely grown and
the growth plates completely closed. Vet believes that this may have already
happened but another month to make sure is a good thing. He says that
Pirate can do anything he likes - no need to limit activity (its good, he's
felling a bit chubby) and we have anotehr xray appointment to check the
bones in February. (i.e. another $300 down the drain...sigh....he's an
EXPENSIVE DAMN DOG).

We are glad his prognosis looks good, although we are told that he WILL have
arthritis at some point and to push glucosamine. I bought chewable tablets
which he refuses. He's a garbage disposal otherwise so I dont' get it but
I'll try another brand.

Glad to hear Pirate is progressing, Beth. We've always used the
Foster-Smith brand glucosamine, condriotan/MSM chewables. I believe they
are liver flavored. When I have something new to try on the dogs, I usually
make them do a trick to get one, as if they were any other *treat*. I get
them all revved up that 'they are going to get a TREAT', and so far that has
worked well here.

That is great news!

Get liquid if you can. Better bioavailability. Although I'm told that some
dogs won't eat if they have their meds added to their food, it hasn't been a
problem with my crew.

Great news!
And I think that just proves that all the worrying you did was necessary.
You wouldn't have gotten those results with no worry!
Good job.

That is a neat trick Tiny, thanks for the tip.

You're welcome, Karla. I truly works like a snap here. If they *think*
they are getting a really good treat, and I really make 'em work for it,
you'd be surprised how fast they gobble it up once they've finally *earned*
it. ;-

I'll give that a shot - I could even add some chicken broth if needed. I
can't imagine him skipping a meal though.
