Default Cappy [RIP]

This morning, the beagle went out, slipped on ice and tore her knee
ligaments. Rather than spending $$$$ on an aging beagle, we put her down.
Cappy came to us about 5-6 years ago as an aged dog. She was found in a
ditch eating carrion and starved. She weighed 8 pounds (compared to her
healthy weight of 22 pounds) and was in systemic failure due to starvation.
She was too weak to surrender to the pound and the humane society was full
and could not take her. so she stayed.. No on ever claimed her, and I
always viewed her as the dog that came, and forgot to leave until she got
seriously ill about a month ago, and then I realized, she WAS ours. When I
carted her to the Emergency vet, I then realized how committed we were to
this dog that was an uninvited guest for so long. She spent her stay here
foiling every plan i had, and blasting my ear drums, when she was put
outside for longer than she needed to do her business. She demanded to be
inside on her couch. She was a major pain in my side. I spent every day of
her presence (until she was sick) resenting it.
But like it or not, she was OUR beagle. Everything she did, I swear she
did, because she knew it annoyed me. And she COULD. Her recalcitrance a
symbol to herself that she lived. Her motto: Annoy mom in every way
possible.

It's going to be very quiet around here.

I'm sorry for your loss, Diddy.

Thanks, obviously there was no love lost, but I felt I needed to make a

statement, because she's been part of my resident beagle in so many of my
posts. I assumed she showed up to give me humility and character

You've said it all in a nutshell. It's funny how love grows, and how it
often grows on the undeserving most of all.

My condolences.

Sometimes it's like that. Echo, the kitten I got for Pandora, was a
royal pain. She was unfriendly until the end, she squawked all day
and all night, and I swear, she meant to drive me insane.

And, yes, it was very quiet when she died.

I'm so sorry Diddy. At times I have thought her your doppleganger, she was
just so opposite of every thing you value.

Sometimes it's the thorns we miss by their absence, that nagging yet
comforting familiarty.

I'm glad she was saved from the ditch, I'm glad Jeff so unceremoniously
decided you could fix her. And you did, as much as she could be fixed.

My heart goes out to both of you.

Sorry to hear she's gone, but you did the right thing by her when you took
her in, when you took care of her in illness, and now that you've released
her from pain to go to the bridge.

Paul and (sometimes a thorn in my life) Muttley
