Sometimes Irish Wolfhounds ARE protective
There was a true story in Col. Graham's book about Irish Wolfhounds. A
couple went out for the evening, and when they returned, they found a burglar on the floor, with their Irish wolfhound lying on top of him. The dog had suprised the burglar, knocked him down, lay down on top of him, and growled whenever the man moved, this went on for several HOURS. Maybe this behavior is atypical, but no bad guy in his right mind is going to test the temperament of a dog over 100 pounds in weight, the height of a Shetland pony! So whether or not he IS a guardian is a moot point. Robert Vaughn had one in a old TV series, one that came after "The Man from UNCLE", I used to watch the show just to see that gorgeous DOG. |

The story reminds of another story where a burglar broke into a home at night while the owners were away. He quickly found the safe, opened it, and started stuffing jewels into a pillow case. Suddenly he heard a voice which said, "I see you, and Jesus sees you, too." He froze and looked all around in the dark, but could not see anyone. So he started filling the pillow case again. And again the voice said, "I see you, and Jesus sees you, too." Now the burglar was really nervous, so he turned on his flashlight to see where the voice was coming from. The beam fell on a little budgie, which said again, "I see you, and Jesus sees you, too." "So what?" said the burglar. "You are only a little budgie." "That may be true," the bird replied. "But Jesus is a Rottweiler." -- Waddling Eagle World Famous Flight Instructor |
