That's - odd.

I worked for a guy once who would put his Irish Setter mix
in the trunk of his car whenever he took her anywhere. I
was appalled, but she didn't seem to mind it very much -
she'd hop in and out just like our dogs jump in and out of
opened car doors.

Cultural thing, maybe - he was one of them furrin types.

Maybe it was the furrin equivalent of the back of a pickup truck,
although the inside of a trunk is arguably safer than the back of a
pickup. I'd worry about carbon monoxide, though.
