Default Rudy health update

We went to see my regular vet today. The vet I see with Rudy is the
one we started with when he was a foster and I just never had reason to
change. He's about the same distance from me, but opposite direction,
from the vet that sees the rest of my pets.

We went because the Rudy vet doesn't have ultrasound equipment, and
that's the recommended next step.

My vet feels that Rudy's weigh loss is a Marcie issue. I thought so
too, but wanted to make sure. That's good news. Also, those second set
of results were good. So, she feels that a congenital defect of some
sort is likely. If not the kidneys, the ureter (or pathways).

He'll go next Tuesday for the ultrasound and urine culture (directly
from the bladder, I can't spell it, so that's what you get!). I may
have to spend the day doing errands. If I'm home, Lucy will have to
contend with Marcie on her own. Not sure I want to do that to her!
Sweet little Marcie was a humping fool today (just to the other dogs).
She and Rudy really do expend a LOT of energy.

More of the waiting game...

I suppose so far, so good. I don't know which can be worse, having a
medical mystery or having an answer.

Although I am reminded that I had an ultrasound and the tech was very
peculiar about her reaction to me. Then the DR told me I has some kind
of mass on my liver and I needed an MRI. My sister died of liver cancer
a couple of months after she turned 50. I was a little older than that.
I couldn't stop myself from freaking out. Well I do have a mass on my
liver, but it's a benign hemangioma. And my mother had the same thing
on one of her kidneys. It's a defect that my family is prone to having
and while it may cause some very minor reactions, they aren't anything
to worry about.

yes. simpler than I remembered. We talked about so many other things
yesterday (like little cameras into the urethra) that my head was too
full of words!

When my dad was having a liver resection done in 2003 I asked the doctor
about my husband as I had some concerns about him.. He had an MRI done that
showed multiple hemangiomas. I haven't given it much thought since then but
yesterday I picked up a copy of his last two labs and the one done in August
of last year show his Bili, total is 0.3 (0.4 - 2.0 mg/dl) and now I'm
wondering what that might mean and where I can find a resource to interpet
lab results. I don't want to leave anything to chance. I don't want to
rely entirely on a doctor's explanation. This whole thing with Shelby has
reinforced that for me. Particularly since back in 2005 when she was having
routine bloodwork for a dental cleaning and a couple of of values came back
high. I asked the vet and she said it was nothing to worry about. When
Shelby was at the specialists in her final crisis and the vet was reviewing
all her past bloodwork I pointed out the elevated levels back in 2005 and
she said she was probably dehydrated then. Had I known what the possible
causes of those elevated levels were I could have requested additional
tests and kept an eye on it.

Kathy,
I certainly agree with you about not relying entirely on a doctor's
explanation.
I have an online resource that I have used to interpret my lab work for
the last few years. I can't vouch for it's credibility, but it seems to
have been accurate for me.
I will be glad to e-mail it to you. I wish your husband good health.
