Default Dog neuter

Hi! My dog is at the vet being neutered. I know they will have lots of
advice for us when we pick him up but if any of you have anything to add
(especially the stuff they often leave out), I'd appreciate it!

Oh, forgot to mention his age as it may be relevant. Someplace between 18
months and 2 years (closer to 2 years they think). Came from local 'no
kill' rescue facility. Mixed breed with strong beagle looks and other half
believed to probably be bull mastiff. Acts like typical scent hound for the
most part. Will have one of thse cone collars when he comes home.

IME with neutering pets, it was not a big deal.
They were neutered, they came home, stumbled around a bit as the anesthetic
wore off, and a few hours later it was like nothing happened.
Was it done by laser or the old-fashioned way?

Normal scalpel way. He's doing as you say. Being a full grown fellow,
seems a bit more painful but he'll be fine. He's sleeping on the bed just
now.

When I first picked up Muttley at the vet where he had the procedure, he
seemed fine, but the cone collar was clumsy for him. I had expected to be
just taking him to the SPCA to be adopted, but they were going to have him
PTS, so I had to leave him at an animal hospital overnight (at a premium
because of his recent operation), while I put together a kennel for him.
But he escaped from the kennel the next evening, and he damaged the cone
collar, so I took it off. He was OK for a couple of days, but he licked and
chewed on his scrotum and he developed a hematoma, so I took him to my
vet's and got another cone collar for him, which he had to wear for at
least a week.

Good luck with your dog.

Paul and Muttley

Thats the main problem now. Cash-pup (not really a pup so much anymore, age
probably close to 2 years) is a mixed breed and in this case it can cause
confusion to describe him so bear with me. He's guessed to be 1/2 Bull
Mastiff (big dogs) but looks like a large muscular Beagle to anyone who
doesnt know how to measure 'points' and stuff like that. Short legs, BIG
DOG neck, with a larger than normal but pretty much 'beagle-looking head' on
it. Because of this, they had to use the larger cone but he's the normal
short legged sort (not as short as a true beagle, but about 21 inches at the
shoudler). This means he's really struggling a bit with the cone.

First obvious sign (caught right away and fixed) was couldnt get at his
normal water feeder bottle. No biggie, we put a bowl out and are refilling
it every 2-3 hours. Had to move some furniture too as he couldnt get around
some of it.

I had expected to be just taking him to the SPCA to be adopted, but they
were going to have him PTS, so I had to leave him at an animal hospital

Ok, warned! Cash-pup is a bit of a licker in that respect, so we figured
we'd just work it out with a short walking conehead in the house for a week,
til he gets his checkup. Then, at least they might be able to adapt the
cone to his height a bit. I'm afraid if I cut it down a little, it will
have sharp edges. Best to just deal with it I think.
