Default Ole Blue

Blue, my friend and companion. I've always been a cat person and a
dog seemed like an insult. My wife bought him a sweater/jersey of my
favorite team and on game day he started jumping up on my lap at game
time. I was sold... Any dog that liked the Cowboys can't be all bad!

I started walking Blue and he has the funniest habit of kicking his
feet and barking after he does his potty. It's like he's proud of his
achivement. Then my wife took him out without his leash. Only for a
minute, but in that minute, a larger vicious dog picked him up at the
shoulders, shook him and threw him on the ground. I rushed him to the
vet and he said his first thought was to put Blue down, but he told us
he would try. Blue was on the operating table for 4 hours as the vet
sewed up his insides.

He said " if he's alive at 9 oclock the next day, I'll be more
optimistic" Needless to say, we didn't sleep much that night.
Blue made it through the night and then began a month long recovery
that was like intensive care. My wife, a RN, was perfect to oversee
his care. He needed pain medication, antibiotics, and he had a cloth
port that needed to be moved periodically so the wound on his left
side would drain. It seemed like forever but he recovered fully
without even a limp. The Vet says it's a miracle.

I figure he didn't want to leave us. He's been through 5 homes in 4
years, his first home was an elderly lady who was soon for a nursing
home. His next home was with 2 gay men! Why he didn't last there i
don't know, but personally, I wouldn't want to live there either. Than
he ended up with a Chihuahua breeder but the other dogs picked on him
and he spent his life under a chair.
Then he ended up with my Mother In Law, and she ended up in a nursing
home in about a year. finally he came to us and God seen fit to
convince me to love him because I love this baby more than any animal
i've ever owned. I lost my Sally 5 months ago to cancer. If you've
ever lost a spouse you know how it affects you. Blue is all i have now
and we both miss her terribly!! Is it wrong for a man to cry? I do
often! God I miss her!

Blue is all i have to live for and he has turned into an obsession for
me. I watch his breathing at night to make sure he is breathing. He's
my love, my life and he always will be!
