Default getting a second dog?

i have a 2 year old lab. been thinking about adding another dog to
our family. was thinking about a boston terrier puppy. i know puppies
are a lot of work and bringing another dog into our home would be a
lot of work but anyone have any opinons on if it is worth it and if a
boston terrier would be a good choice???

I tend to go with opposite genders if I have only 2 dogs, but
much of that is personal choice as well as your own abilities.

And personal choice should include your *dog's* preferences - is he
socialized with other dogs? If so, what sex/type of dog he tends to
gravitate to? Has he had "issues" with other dogs (that can include being
targeted by other dogs), and if so, have you noticed whether this is more
with males or females?

I'll add that retrievers and terriers can make a very good combination IME
and IMO, and that Bostons are delightful little dogs if they're given
appropriate training & exercise.

I have a spayed female boston and they are delightful dogs. They have a
wonderfully, keen sense of fun play, a sense of humor like no other. And a
sweet disposition. But the previous posters are correct..they must be kept
busy..both mentally and physically. Mine is very smart, i would assume
that's a common trait. They are voracious chewers, so i always make sure
appropriate chew toys are in place. Of course, obedience training makes
life easier for you and the dog alike. my other dog is a spayed female jrt
mix and they mostly do well...but in some situations, there is the
occasional short lived snark fest..

Heh. So what's your take on JRTs and MinPins?

Meant to add that perhaps I should have mentioned to the OP that my
criteria for "delightful" is shaped by the fact that the dogs I've chosen to
live with over the last 13 years are a Redbone cross, a Border Collie cross,
a Jack Russell Terrier, and a Jack Russell/Min Pin cross.

I must be the only person that doesn't
particularly enjoy spending time with Bostons.

The Boston in my daycare? He's why I thought of rewriting my
client contract to include "If you give him up, give him to me."
