My Little Marcie
Is officially a "Flyball Dog" (FD) as of today! We got to run 2 heats
(2 more than anticipated) and although she had some trouble on the first, came back to nail the second and get her title. She's off to a great career. She's the youngest dog I've ever done this with, so it is pretty exciting for us! -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

I have no idea how flyball titles work, but it's impressive that Marcie did what you wanted so young and both of you had fun doing it and getting there. -- --Matt. Rocky's a Dog. |

In a nutshell, dogs earn points based on their team's total time. Points are awarded for under 24 seconds, under 28 seconds and under 32 seconds. (25, 5, and 1, respectively). A Canadian team came. They are THE team. One heat was 15.7 seconds. They were a blast to watch and their passes were amazing. Titles are geared towards really rewarding every step of the game. They get earned at 20, 100, 500, 1500, 2500, 5000, 10000, 15000, 20000, then every 10000 after that. 20K used to be the biggie - I still remember the first region dog to reach that - a very big deal. Now dogs are going to 70K, 80K, 100K! When I was racing Lucy and Franklin, the 1500 and 2500 titles didn't exist, and it was a long wait between 500 and 5000 points! Lucy retired, and Franklin left us, with ~23,000+ and 24,000+ each. At Lucy's first tournament (over a decade ago), she ran almost full time for 2 days and earned her FD, 1 and 5 points at a time (more 1's!). Marcie got the title in one heat (as did Franklin). What a difference. Some of that is team structure, some training time. Lucy had her first tournament 3 months after I got her and started training her and she was nowhere near ready. These days, dogs are in training longer, get to do warmups at tournaments for periods of time so they get used to actual racing lanes instead of just practice, and are better prepared for their debut. Even more exciting than Marcie's debut was a new teammate with her first flyball dog, earning her FD and FDX this weekend, with her 6 yo BC. To see how excited she was and know that this will become a fun addiction for her, when she had started out just wanting to give her dog something fun to do, was great, -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

Congrats to Marcie. It took Atty the entire weekend to get her FD. (We know about those 1 point at a time titles!) A couple of our first timers in our group were FDX the first day. Needless to say, *we* weren't on the "first team"! Unfortunately, due to my car accident in December, we're out of flyball for awhile. I went back for the first time since the accident in March only to be told the next week by my doctor that in no way, shape, or form, and I to do that again for awhile! Bummer. Atty so loves flyball.
