Default Good news and bad news

As usual.

Lucky ( fka Klondike) is here and settling in. He's a good dog, sweet,
kind of oafish and really calm. We actually considered Goober. He's a
Goober kind of dog. He's pretty big for an Eskie, 40 lbs. His hearing
is pretty much shot but his vision is fine. He doesn't have cataracts,
it turned out to be nuclear sclerosis.

Anyway, the bad news is that I took him in for a complete exam and we
found out that he has heart worms. We are starting treatment for them
early next week when they get the meds in. Based on the x-rays he
shows mild damage, 1A and 2B according to the paperwork.
The prognosis is good though and he's relaxed enough we shouldn't need
to crate him during the next couple of months. Other than a mild ear
infection and a couple of ticks everything else was fine in the tests.
It could always have been worse.

Oh well, much like children they don't come with a warranty... :-)

Wishing you the best and thankful that HW is treatable these days! He
may be perkier once cured though!

I've got one of those myself. Dad even calls her that. Great dogs.

I know that in some cases of HW, vets just put the dog on HW preventative to
keep the young larvae at bay and let the old ones die out. Don't know if
that's an option with Goober, or if it was discussed, but thought I'd toss
it out there anyway.

Good luck to you and Klondike. It turns out, he's indeed lucky.

Sounds like the prevenative rather than the full treatme. Good.

Great.
