Default Molly had a Good Day!

Two, in fact.

On Sunday, we had breakfast near the town stables, so we took her
for a walk down the roads that pass between the corrals. She was
entranced! "Mommy! There are REALLY BIG DOGS HERE!!!" We'd walk
over to a corral to let her take a closer look, and immediately
she'd try to scrunch under the fence. She wiggled, danced,
play-bowed, and strained to get a closer look. A few of the
animals walked over to the fence and sniffed right back at her.
She said she wants to do this again! (There's a fund-raising
breakfast at the Posse Shack once a month, so I expect we'll be
back regularly.)

Then last night, we went to the first obedience class. "Mommy!
There are LOTS OF DOGS HERE!!!" I wouldn't say that she was the
best-behaved (lots of whining and straining to get to the other
dogs, especially the Great Dane standing next to us - and that
was mutual). But she was manageable, and the instructor used her
twice to demo a command with the comment, "I don't always do this
when I'm getting close to a strange dog's face, but I don't think
I'll have a problem with her." The instructor was mostly in
danger of fatal licks.

After the class, we went to the dog park next to the obedience
club, and were joined by three of her classmates, including the
Great Dane. All were between 6 months and a year. They tore the
place up, running and chasing and tussling until they nearly
dropped from exhaustion. Even the shepherd mix, who was quite
shy and timid, joined in after initially hanging back. I guess
we'll have to go back frequently - and certainly before class
next week, to burn off some of that energy.

Sounds like a great time was had by all. Glad to hear these stories.

It's great that she's so sweet and friendly and curious about everything
around her. She is just bursting at the seams to experience all of it.

A happy dog!

Generally the best time to be there, untill the cold and short days
arrive, is just after people get off work, 5:15-6:30, just before the
obediance classes typically start. However until you get to know the
characteristics of the regulars (a few, particularly those that are newy
adults whose owners haven't adopted to the changes in behavior that
brings, can be problems) , it can be best, but inconvenient, to go
before the crowd arrives and meet dogs in smaller numbers.

Thanks. Mostly I'll be going to the lesser park in WR, since
it's much closer to me. Right now the only times that have much
appeal are early morning and around sunset. Early morning in
particular doesn't seem to be very popular - which is good, since
I'm backing off on bringing her into the park with other dogs,
especially unknown dogs, until we have a better recall.
