Default The Dog Who Thinks She's A Goat

Yesterday at work, I was paged to go to Grooming to hear a dog cry. She was
very nervous about being bathed, and was making these extraordinary sounds. If
you didn't look at her, you'd be certain there was a goat standing there. I've
never heard anything like it! At least, not from a creature without hoofs.

Anybody else ever hear a dog make sounds dogs don't make?

Manu grunts like a pig when he's happy. and Lola sighs like a child when
she's frustrated.

Pebbles, the Min. Dachshund sounds like a pigeon. She constantly makes the
*exact* same noise and has done so for the past 6 years or so. She does it
when walking, when sleeping, just about anytime that she's not excited
because then she's barking her head off.

Heh. I have to admit, I have not heard a basenji. What kinds of sounds do
they make?

ooh, i met a pit bull who does that. when she's excited or happy, she makes
this cooing sound, like a dove or a pigeon. it's one of the strangest
things i've ever heard.

Anybody else ever hear a dog make?

A few decades ago, I worked for the HS. My job was to 'manage' the
adoption kennel {deciding which strays would be kept and put up for
adoption, training, grooming}, and PTS the stray dogs and cats when
their time was up. We had a lot of Afghans coming through, even a few
litters of pups. I usually had one or two Afghans in the adoption
section, and occasionally took home one or two to wait til a spot opened
up. One Afghan would pout and sulk if I paid any attention to another
dog, but the racket it put up when I walked outside to work a dog had to
be heard to be believed. Imagine an underwater screech punctuated by
horror movie-esque screams. I've never heard another dog make that
noise, and I'll never forget it.

That dog was placed with a deaf owner, IIRC. ;-)
