Default UK Bomb sniffer dog dies of broken heart .

I don't know if dogs do die of a broken heart but the whole story is
tragic. :'(

*In life, they were united in their tireless work saving countless British
soldiers in Afghanistan.
In death, they were united in tragedy.
Shortly after Lance Corporal Liam Tasker was killed in a firefight with the
Taliban, his devoted Army search dog Theo suffered a seizure and passed
away too.*

Sad story.

But it's more likely that the seizure wasn't due to a broken heart
(they weren't together that long, anyway), but to genetics. Springers
are relatively high up on the list of breeds susceptible to seizures
(epilepsy), and epilepsy is thought to be related to what's commonly
known as "rage syndrome."

Godspeed to both.

Agree with Dogman on this one. A dog that dies of mourning generally
takes weeks-months to do so and is obviously mourning; withdraws from
other relationships, acts depressed, eats poorly, if at all. (Did you
ever read the book or see the movie _Where the Red Fern Grows_ ?
One of the dogs was so tightly bonded to the other that when the other
dog died, the first one dwindled....)

Some other cause.... the seizure.... intervened here, much faster.
Genetics-based epilepsy, brain tumor, even an aneurism, ingestion of
some toxic material....

He was a very handsome dog....

P.S. I've never seen, nor read, Where the Red Fern Grows. Is it
non-fiction?

It's fiction. It was a movie, too (a tear jerker, as they say).

And the dog who supposedly died from grief had just fought a mountain
lion (along with her buddy, who was killed in the fight) a few days
before and was herself seriously wounded in the encounter.

I think that probably had something to do with it too, eh? Heh.

And I agree with you, I think dogs generally do just fine after they
lose a beloved owner or canine buddy. They move on.

I think you're right. I expect stress exacerbates any underlying
condition and the dog Theo must have been under constant stress in those
conditions.
Godspeed to both,
