Living in a hot climate, we fight this problem from late March or early
April through into late October or early November. Not just with pets.
We lose at least one child a year to a hot car..... and several more end
up in the hospital.

The average person here is pretty aware of the danger, and will notify
authorities promptly.... Police and animal control officers are Very
alert to the problem.

I have four wire crates in my mini-van, two on the floor and two on top
of those. I've gotten a "hot dog" card of some kind on my vehicle even
when it's been days since I last carried a dog in the van. Doesn't
upset me at all; someone Knew and that someone Cared. And will do it
again when there Is an animal in a vehicle.

Yup, time for the standard alert here too. Here, part of ot is hot
asphalt tar burning the pads of the dogs feet. People are in sneakers
and don't realize roads are hot enough to fry an egg on.

Char had a good post 2 years ago on what to watch for among those not
aware of southern temps.

Yes, we have the hot asphalt issue, too..... and caution obedience
students about this as most are regular dog walkers.

It can be a problem for our pet therapy volunteers, too.... parking and
getting the dog into the facility, or at least the shade.

Oh, how awful!

I think in the problem in the Uk is that people aren't so aware especially
when you have days when its not that hot but hot in a car.
You'd think that the police dog handlers and trainers would be more aware
than the average Joe but it seems in this case it was forgetfulness.

yes , its nice to know that someone cared.
I bought a newer car last year and this one has air conditioning and the
dogs really appreciate it.

It rarely gets that hot here, thank goodness! If it's that hot, I walk
earlier or later in the day. Dibby has a pushchair for when it's hot or wet
and cold.
