What will they think of next?
By WALTER S. MOSSBERG
One of the greatest attributes of man's best friend is that he never talks back -- at least not in human language. But soon, a new gadget might allow your dog to give you just as much lip as your teenage daughter. Bow-Lingual, a digital device that "translates" your dog's barks into English phrases, will bound into U.S. stores Aug. 15. It claims to be able to finally tell you what your pooch really means by all that barking. We've been putting it to the test with real dogs -- with decidedly mixed results. The device was created by Takara, a Japanese toy company that has sold 250,000 units in Japan. Though the product was created by a toy company, its $120 price tag is nothing to fool around with. But after Americans spent $29.5 billion on their pets last year alone, according to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, Takara may have some takers, especially among the most fervent dog lovers. http://ptech.wsj.com/archive/solution-20030723.html |
