Default OT Newsreaders

I apologize for the OT post, but I know several regulars here have what I am
looking for. I am looking for a free newsreader that allows random quotes
to be placed in your signature line. I know Marcel and a few others use
newsreaders such as this.

Thanks in advance,
Robin

Well, I have something like this, but its not the newsreader that does
it for me.

I use xnews (on the PC) for newsreading, and a program called Random
Tagline Manager for the signature line.

Xnews draws from a text (.txt) file for its signature, and RTM will
modify that text file from a random pool of signatures. Its the same
program that Marcel uses (unless he has changed).

It takes some playing to get used to, but it works fairly well. The
database had a lot of quotes I wanted to delete, and that process was
somewhat tedius, but in the end it was worth it.

It's not a newsreader per-se. but a little program that you use. It can
work with any newsreader including, IIRC, OE.

Choose Random Tagline Manager. It comes with a rather large selection of
taglines, but I recommend going through them and deleting those you don't
like.

it's not a newsreader you're looking for, but a random sig
generator. i don't know what others are using, but i
recommend Kookie Jar (i use it at home in conjunction with
Agent). it works with several mail and news clients:

Mozilla
Forte Agent
Eudora Pro
Netscape Messenger
Pegasus Mail
The Bat!
Gravity
XNews
MS Outlook
MS Outlook Express

you can download it he

here's another one that sits in the systray, that you can use with any
newsreader:

Thanks Kelly, and all who answered so quickly. I'll check them all out to
see which one works best for my purpose. I plan to use taglines generate
exposure for the presidential candidate I'll be supporting in 2004. It may
offend some, but if even one person reads the quotes and VOTES, either for
or against my candidate, it will have served it's purpose.

what's wrong with him? i don't know much about him, but i figure anyone
who's last name isn't Bush is ok in my book.

I like him. He doesn't dance around the issues. He's not afraid of
offending the conservative right. He can unite the independent and
democratic voters, which let's face it, that division is the only reason
Bush is in office today.

that's okay, we were all thinking it EEG.

Get rid of the side thingies. If I use them, my sig file looks wierd as
well.

if one *must* have a boxed-in sig, how about using | for the
sides? (the vertical double dash thingy that li-barians call
a delimiter? i dunno what it's called by real people. it's
usually above the back-slash.)

Figured out how to do that right after I posted.

Or turn them off. I never liked the boxed in sig look, but others seem
to get by fine with it (e.g. Marcel)

I actually never use them as well. I just turned it on so that Robin
could see what it looks like with them.
