Default Teeny, tiny, micro-brag

Storm the FCR has been giving me fits the last few weekends:

I took her out for her first WC two weeks ago. (yes, she's steady, but a
sloppy heeler) She did brilliantly on land and then failed the water
when she baulked at swimming a long way in the weeds. (Yes, eventually
got the duck, but anyhow...)

Last weekend, we went to her first agility trial, where my brilliant
young dog got the zoomies bigtime. She brought a novel approach to the
weave poles: weave one, do an obstacle. weave another, do an obstacle,
etc., etc., etc. "My, but your dog is having a wonderful time!" said the
judge, laughing.

I've been feeling a bit gloomy about these back-to-back weekend fails. I
haven't done much serious trainng since. Last night, I took Teena the
nutty Springer down to the water for some fetch-the-bumper and some one-
on-one time. The last time I heaved it out, she swam to the bumper, put
her nose on it, and came back in, dragging a nearby stick. Nothing I
could do would convince this d*&% dog to go back out into the water. I
swear to doG, that dog is eeeevil.

So I stalked home with Evil Dog and picked up Storm and went back down to
the beach. I lined her up on the bumper wayythehelloutthere. "Dead
Bird." "There." "Back!"

She got it!
She got it!
She got it!

I got all wet hugging my dog, and now I'm going to have to teach her not
to expect Mummy to go bananas every time she comes in with a blind :-)

Kate - you need to realize that EVERY FCR owner hears this from judges! Let's
face it - they are very creative!

Did I tell you about Franklin leaping at the judge and smothering his ears and
face wih kisses? ...............

Hah! (Don't read this post, Kate, I don't want to discourage
you.)

A friend has the fastest dog I've ever seen. Really. People
stop talking and gape when Winnie runs. Unfortunately, Winnie
likes to do her own thing. This works well in Snooker and
Gamblers - she's at the Masters level.

After 4 years, however, Karen and Winnie are still looking for
their final leg in Standard.

OK, Kate, you can unplug your ears.
