please help ID tiny external parasite

Bigger than a flea. Smaller than any tick I've ever seen, and didn't seem the right shape for a tick. Plus--there are literally dozens of them. What in the world is this? Ok, I can't get Orson in to be seen until 3:30 this afternoon. And the vet asst I spoke with said it didn't sound familiar to her, so I'm still open to suggestions about what these little buggers are. Cate |
