Default 5 week old Lhasa's

I ended up with 5 little puff balls that are 5 weeks old. (The woman that
breed them is a flake!) Anyway, I need to know if I can give these pups
their first set of shots. They are eating Sceince Diet dry with water and
they are eating just fine, funny since they don't have many teeth, but they
are going up for homes in the next few days and I'd like to make sure they
are protected. Any help will be appreciated.

As this is a special situation, consult your vet. You can do this by
phone. However, if you don't think "the flake" had them vetted earlier,
it might well be worth the cost to take them in for a physical and have
at least the first shots given by the vet. If they had the colostrum
from mom... the first stage of milk production that has most of the
antibodies... they may be safe for another week or three... but only if
mom was vaccinated properly.... If they didn't get it, or probably
didn't... whole different ball game. You may need to use a modified
schedule... so talk to your vet!!!!!!!!!!!

Uh...
Can you clarify a few things? How did you get them? Why is their mother not
with them? They should DEFINITELY not be separated from the litter for at
least three weeks. At five weeks, they are far too young to be placed in
homes. Generally, breeders begin worming at a few weeks of age and shots
beginning at 6-8 weeks, and they should have at least one set of shots and
worming before being placed. Please don't put them up for adoption yet -
hopefully someone with experience raising a litter sans mother will post,
but if not, check yahoogroups for a dog breeding list and ask for help
there. If you cannot keep them together for a few weeks minimum, please find
a rescue group who can foster and place them safely when it is appropriate.

I got ahold of my vet and she said to wait til they are 6 weeks. She came
over and took a look at them and gave them all a clean bill of health. She
really hopes we don't have to do this again with puppies this young. They
really are a great bunch of pups and are cute as can be.

Wow! Lots of luck, raising a litter without the Mom must be tough! And I
think you'll be raising them as a litter for a bit longer; 5 weeks would
definitely be too young if the dam were with them, it's probably too
young even though she isn't there.

I'm dying to know the story of how you ended up with a 5-week-old
litter. Care to tell us?

Well,

I have sold 4 of them when they hit 6 weeks old. They are doing great! We
had purchased a female out of the litter and then we also ended up with the
runt, he is just TOO cute, he is just over 2 lbs and has a habit of
climbing into the small food bowl and going to sleep.

The woman I got them is a friend of a friend. She is hurting for money and
knew that we would take care of them. We paid her for the pups and put
them in the paper.

I just want to know what I'm going LOL.

Mom to 5 Lhasa's, 1 Rottie, 1 Mutt, 1 African Gray, 1 Moluccan, 2 Guinea
Pigs and fish.

You should SERIOUSLY rethink letting them go home at 6 weeks. Can you not
wait the extra two weeks to let them socialize amongst each other? That
is how they learn bite inhibition and just make overall better pets.
