bulldog housetraining problem
i bought a 4 month old bulldog 2 weeks ago and while she learned on
her first day here where to defecate, she simply refuses to pee where i want her to. it has also become apparent to me that she prefers to pee on a surface other than the concrete patio, which is her designated elimination area. after one such accident inside (on tile floors) i mopped up with paper and put them outside where she could go and smell them. she proceeded to eat the paper. today, she took a cardboard box (her preferred toy) outside, peed on it, then tore it to hell, before peeing on it again. she has soiled the couch, her bedding (even when she had the option of going away from her bed to pee, she soiled the bed instead), towels, bathmat, doormat and rug. also when i see her peeing inside, i dont scold her, but i try to make a noise to distract her and stop her from peeing so i can bring her outside, she doesnt stop peeing, and has never ever finished outside. she has also never peed out of submission inside, just by sheer choice. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks- brian |

thanks for all the advice so far. i got her from a breeder, who got
her from another breeder as payment for use of his stud. so i didnt get to see her whelping area. unfortunately, concrete is the only option for elimination where we live (Guanajuato, Mexico) unless i make her an area on the patio, but i dont know what material to use. id consider tearing up the concrete to make a grass area, but we rent. she also occasionally will sniff at her urine when shes done and take a few sips. she doesn´t seem motivated to move towards the door on her own. that is to say if i recognize that she looks like she needs to go, or hasn´t gone for a few hours and i take her outside, she may or may not go, but she needs to be lured outside. also, if i don´t recognize her need, she doesnt try to signal me at all, or make a move toward the door (which is always open anyway for her to go out) she just goes wherever, or she´ll go halfway to the door and decide thats far enough. never in the same place twice inside either. thanks again, brian |
