Warning about Dog Trainer
"Robin Nuttall" wrote:
The worst thing for a puller is a choke collar. Absolutely! Unless you know how to properly use it. A dog who is not responding to treats and praise may need the addition of a timely correction (a collar pop, to make a noise not choke the dog). I bet this would have made all the difference in the world if I had realized this when I trained Madigan to walk on leash. I taught my eskie to heel using a choker as a noise aversive. He learned very fast, and he had been a dedicated puller. But then again, Leah doesn't have a clue how to fit a prong either... I do now. I was doing it the way I was shown, by Madigan's trainer.
