Default Warning about Dog Trainer

If you do, how can you reasonably expect him to do that if you even
refuse to teach him which behaviors are UNACCEPTABLE ones?

Behind Door Number One (compliance, a loose leash, etc.) CLEARLY lies
a free ticket to a one hour stay in Retriever Heaven (or a treat, a
pat on the head, etc.), for example.

And behind door Number Two (noncompliance, pulls on the leash, etc.)
CLEARLY lies nothing but a correction.

Now, what do you think the vast majority of dogs will willingly
CHOOSE?

The collar pop merely functions as a reminder to the dog that he -- Ka
Ching!! -- made the WRONG CHOICE, please try again.

"Okay, Boss! I knew it was Door Number One all along!"

"No more Door Number Two for me!"

And then after an appropriate number of repetitions, the dog soon
learns that Retriever Heaven, etc. is ALWAYS found behind Door Number
One, and it's NEVER found behind Door Number Two, so why would he ever
choose Door Number Two again?

But with the way you're trying to teach your dog, Leah, he's never
really taught that picking Door Number Two is unacceptable.

So, why would he *ever* stop picking Door Number Two (or pulling on
the leash)?

A *very* good example Jack.
