Default Warning about Dog Trainer

"Place" is one of the 1st things I teach a pup, along with 30-60
minutes of sitting on the lead a day, ignoring the dog, to teach
patience & self control

Ok, I understand this. My dogs know place and out, they do it while I am
there.

However, how do you, without prevention or being there, teach your dogs that an
open trash can is off limits? If you are not there to say "place", do you
honestly believe that the dog will remember that command when he looks at the
open trash can full of yummies?

Prevention would be to simply put the trash away when you are gone.
