dog biting dirt.
Just did a very interesting consult for a dog biting and barking at dirt.
Funniest thing watching this dog obviously a high drive cross breed red cattle and kelpie but due to boredom it started amusing itself. A classic owner inspired caused problem anyway here was I did to fix the problem. I attached a check chain and long lead to the dog and did a basic routine with him, he did all the normal things very quickly and seemed very focused, but as soon as the kids started kicking dirt the dog was off. I started with mild aversive telling the dog no, but this had very little effect, even a raised voice had no effect, ok level 2 was a correction with the chain just as he showed interest in the dirt, this had immediate effect and we praised him for his efforts by doing a sit and food reward. Within 5 minutes this dog lost all interest in the dirt and barking even off lead good job and we did not charge for this as the owners now have to keep the dog occupied. -- David Sweeney STI QK9SARG "Send Seek Find" www.qk9sarg.org www.qk9sarg.org |
