Default Help with impulse to flee

Hello. I have a 5 yr gold lab X who is a most amazing dog - she is so loyal
and obedient, she respects our home boundaries whether a door or gate is
open or not. However, recently, I have taken in a stray. It has been a
week, and I have placed ads at the pound and put up posters all over the
neighbourhood but no one has come to claim her. Tomorrow, I will take her
to the vet and see if she is microchipped. If no one responds, I will keep
the dog, as I, my lab, and my children have all fallen in love with her.

The dog is a yorkie, f, approximately 1 - 2 yrs old, and I'm pretty sure she
was lost by bolting out of someone's door. No matter where she is in the
house, the instant the front door opens, the dog bolts outside.

Right from the moment I let the dog inside, it had to obey certain rules,
and even my lab has been working to correct the yorkie when it displays poor
puppy manners (e.g., jumping onto the kitchen table) by barking at it.
Incidentally, the dog appears to be doing better at getting the message
across to the yorkie than I do! Anyway, I taught the dog to sit, and am
working on stay. I was hoping that once those commands were mastered, that
I might be able to put it into a sit-stay in front of the door, while the
kids and neighbours walked in and out. Do you think this will work, or are
some dogs hard-wired to flee?
