Default what would you do?

sometime in the near future me and mine will spend the weekend camping along
with my sister and her family. This includes our beloved dogs. (I have
one, she has 2 small dogs).

During the weekend of camping there will be a period where my son has his
weekly soccer game. This requires us to travel to the game, meaning we
can't leave dogs alone at the campsite for the 4+ hrs we will be gone.
But,
the park where the game will be held is not a dog park. (Florida sucks when
it comes to pet friendliness - the only parks that allow dogs are "dog
parks" which are special fenced off areas where dogs can run free).

It is also still to warm to leave the dogs in the cars for the 1.5hrs that
the game takes up - not to mention these are very busy parks - with lots of
other teams playing their games too, so one of my sister's dogs is a
barker - so she can't leave him in the car.

So, what would you do? I'm thinking we just ignore the "no dog" signs (dog
w/ a big slash thru it) and bring the dogs to the park, sit out of the way
and keep the dogs on a tight leash, being sure to clean up if anything
happens.

What would you do?

(btw - my husband is coach of the soccer team, so we can't just skip the
game.)

Go to the park with everyone in tow, sister drops you (optional), your
husband and son off, takes off with the dogs and goes some place where
they can have a grand old time.

Yep, me too. I do not know if this is common, but I remember going to
a touristy type place in NC, or TN, or GA (where we were, it was all
sort of there together on the corner...) that had a built-in kennel area for
dogs. Considering how hot the summers get there (it was late Sept/
early Oct when we were there & it was in the 80's), I wondered if there
were more places like that back East.

I am going away for a conference at a hotel that allows me to take my dog.
Should I take him? I will be there for a week. I don't know how many hours
the conference is each day (I didn't get the agenda yet). My parents will
watch the dog and we live with them so it would be that different really. I
will miss the puppy though. I don't want to have to leave the puppy alone
for long hours but I will miss him if he doesn't come and he will miss me
(he slept in my bed since the night I got him). what should I do? thanks

Or if this doesn't work for you, adults except husband take turns going
to the car and staying with the dogs, with the AC turned on. You would
still get to see most of the game.

As long as parents are willing and able, I'd leave the puppy with them.
Are they old softies who would let him in bed with them? If not,
maybe they can put his crate/kennel/bed next to theirs at night so that
we won't get lonely.

IMO, that would be better than leaving him for long hours in the hotel
room or kennel. He'll need to pee and will probably be lonely if no one
is around.

That's what I would do.

I had to face this choice when I had a three-month assignment in another
state - it was hard enough to find a 3-month rental, much less one that
would take pets. And I was working long hours, with an hour commute
each way. So I "let" my parents babysit my Chihuahua. I really missed
her, but she settled right into their routine, and yet she was happy to
see me when I picked her up.

This is a no-brainer. It's not fair to take a puppy to a new environment
and leave him alone for hours each day. It's a recipe for stress-induced
bad behavior on his part, and for stress-induced worry on your part while
you're out of the hotel room. What if he gets out of the room? What if he
gets sick while you're out?

It's also not fair to your fellow hotel guests and hotel staff to have to
deal with any problems that may arise. What if he bites the housekeeping
staff? What if he barks? What if he destroys the room furnishings?

You've already answered your own question, really: Leave him at home where
he'll be safe and happy with your parents.
