Default Dealing with those unpleasant doggie odors...

My dog had a (liquid) accident on an area rug I absolutely love. There are
no stains visible after cleaning the peed-upon spots, but now the rubber
backing stinks to high heaven. I've tried using Febreze on it, but then it
just smells like Febreze-scented dog-pissy rubber. It's a 5x8, so it's too
big for the washing machine. I really don't want to throw out this rug; do
you all have any ideas for me for something that might get rid of the stink?
Thanks in advance!
