Why is it that important to microchip Canaan dogs?

I guessing here...but, aside from the 'normal' reasons that breeders/buyers
generally microchip my guess is that possibly they are afraid
that a lost/escapee Canaan dog would almost never be properly
ID'd at a shelter?
Just a guess. I need to read the article! :-)

I just rec'd my copy yesterday and have only had time to thumb
through and read the Breed Spotlight (It's Belgian Sheepdog this
month).

I'll have to check that out. We had a mutt when I was growing up.
Had no idea what was in her, but she looked like a medium sized black
husky. Smartest dog I've ever been around. Anyway, saw some pictures
of Belgian sheep dogs and became convinced that she had a lot of that
in her. She also had strong hearding instincts so figured there must
be some shepard in her.

It will be interesting to read up on it to see if the temperment and
demeaner fit.
