Default Pavlov's Dogs?

In the mornings when I feed the dogs I have the local news on. they
hear the music that indicates what program it is when they eat.

When I was home watching the storm on TV and the News came on at a
time I NEVER watch the news, the minute Bagel heard the music he went
to his food bowl and did the 3 times scratch and sat down to be fed.
Funniest thing.

That _is funny, Nessa.
Curious how dogs vary in responding to environmental cues, human cues,
and _their human cues.

For our dog in the mornings, it's after I shower. As soon as he hears my
shower turn off in the morning, he runs to his bed. When I come out of the
bathroom he is licking his lips madly, wagging his tail, and looking
anxiously from his bed. In the afternoon, he knows that my hubby feeds him
once he has finished with the dishes, so when we get up to bring our dishes
into the kitchen, Rusty runs to his bed, again licking his lips madly. It's
really cute to watch. (explanation of the bed... He knows that he has to
be there before we will let him eat - it stops us from stepping on him when
we're walking from his food container to his bowl)

Amazing what they learn!

Oppie's clue is "hungry." When someone asks, "are you hungry?" or "is
there a hungry dog in the room?" that's the cue that the dogs are about to
be fed. He goes loping off to find the "hungry ball" (nearest ball, sock,
chewtoy, etc.), then comes back snorting, whimpering, wiggling, tail tight
to his butt but wagging like mad, with his ears flat and his eyes slitted
(he's a yellow lab).

Of course, we have to be careful when we use that word...
