Slippage ...... and signals
Any ideas on how to maintain dogs' basic compliance when they are
walked and socialized by many different people throughout the day? Preparing 3 shelter dogs for their CGC test next Sunday. Missed working with them yesterday, and there was a falling off of their readiness. I hope a session just before the test will bring them up to speed. This is a constant problem, however. I'd like to post a notice of the cues different dogs respond to on their runs. But, they may not react to those cues for anybody who comes along. Do you think dogs are more likely to respond to a physical cue than a verbal one delivered by a stranger? How can they interpret a word delivered by a 4 year old kid? Wondering about teaching each "one irresistible trick" (that really gets them adopted) and putting it on the cue of a raised forefinger. Just because humans are slow and can't smell or hear very well doesn't mean they don't possess a primitive type of intelligence. |
