Dog Afraid Of Toy Gun
I was sitting on my couch looking at a lifelike toy pistol, snapping
the trigger a few times. Then I noticed my dog had jumped into my wife's lap and was trembling uncontrollably. A few weeks ago, I was snapping a dish towel at flys in the house, and saw the dog was cowering in a corner behind some furniture. I first noticed this odd behavior shortly after I brought the dog home. I took the belt off my pants and the dog ran away. She's a rescue dog (Australian Cattledog), about 5 years old, that the previous owner got from the pound. When we got her, she seemed overly timid around anyone except female children. She put a tooth through my hand the first day I got her, and was very shy or agressive toward men. Over the two years I have had her, she has improved a lot, and is now a very well behaved and happy dog. I can understand she might have been hit with a belt and that the sound of the snapping towel might have evoked some memory. But what about the sight of the toy pistol? Other things I have around the dog make snapping noises, so I don't think it was the sound. I just can't imagine what she was exposed to before she went to the pound. |
