Dobermann puppy - crate training, constant barking. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have just got our new dobermann puppy and are currently trying to
train it in the new crate it constantly barks and does not settle down. How can we get it used to the crate? and to stop barking We have only had her for three days, so I know she must be missing her family but we really need her to get used to this crate we are not getting a wink of sleep and are up all night with her barking. We are using the crate to help with her house training as she keeps peeing all around the house even though we have just taken her outside!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

but we really need her to get used to this crate we are not getting a wink of sleep and are up all night with her barking. We are using the crate to help with her house training as she keeps peeing all around the house even though we have just taken her outside!! WHERE is the crate? It should be in your bedroom, preferably next to the bed. You can hang some fingers into the crate to let her know you're there for her. Seeing, hearing, and smelling your presence is comforting. You ask good questions. Everything your pup is doing is normal for a
new puppy. I recommend going to the library and looking at a few books on housetraining your puppy. They'll all be slight variations on a theme. Basically you start with a puppy that's not old enough to hold it for long, keep to a schedule and do everything you can to make sure your pup is outside when he needs to pee. When the inevitable mistakes happen, clean up promptly and dispassionately. As your pup gets older and can hold it longer, she'll also be able to make the connection between his actions and yours. Then you start praising like crazy every time he gets it right. Right now she's peeing in the house even after she's been outside because she has no way of knowing that outside is the right place to go. Is the crate in the bedroom with you? That will be a big help in making sure your puppy isn't lonely. Give your pup lots of exercise during the day to help him sleep at night. Three sleepless nights is nothing when you have a new baby in the house. Put the time to train and socialize your pup now, and you'll have a great dog for years to come. --Lia (This post will inevitably be followed by a vicious one from our resident loon. Could you ignore it? The usual way it goes is for a new person to post here asking for advice, followed by several posts from the loon, followed by a post telling the new person to killfile him. I'm trying to save time.) Stephanie wrote: Have just got our new dobermann puppy and are currently trying to train it in the new crate it constantly barks and does not settle down.
