Default Doggie blood donors

Was watching K9-5 on Animal Planet today. I found out that there are at
least 13 blood types for dogs as opposed to 4 for people, but that
greyhounds have the equivalent of type O blood. The show was encouraging
dog people to set up dog blood donor centers in their communities. A dog
had to be over 55 pounds and vet friendly. There were some more
stipulations, but my mind just went blank. Oh well, thought you all
might think the idea was interesting anyway.

When I lived in Madison, WI, there were often several greyhounds being walked
by vet students - they were the resident blood donors. I always thought it was
so amusing to see 5 or 6 greyhounds being walked with nary a pull on a leash
and then see one Lab or whatever else pulling the shoulder out of some owner's
socket.
