Default Dog reaction towards death

I'm curious about how dogs react towards death. Dogs are known to form
a strong bond or attachment with their owner so obviously when the
owner dies usually there is a "grieving" period. My question is, if
the owner dies in front of the dog does it mitigate the grieving
reaction? Does a dog instinctly accept death and move onwards if it
sees/smells the corpse of its owner. Or is a dog in fact capable of
more abstract emotion by continuing to grieve for its owner even
after the dog has witnessed/acknowledged their death.
