Default First Menstruation (Jack Russel)

My Jack Russel, Cookie, is a very healthy and active dog.
She has her first menstruation but it has been on for 14 days now. She is
still looking very healthy and is very active. Is such this long period
something wrong, and should I be doing something?
Thanks

First, it's a heat cycle, not menstruation. They're about as opposites as
something like that can be.

Secondly, she will be in heat for up to 3 1/2 wks--during the entire time,
she should be kept strictly away from all intact males.

Thirdly, it would be best for her health to be spayed as soon as your vet
will allow it (many vets won't spay a dog that is in heat.)

It can sometimes last even longer. Some Basenjis bitches have been
successfully bred at day 32. (Rare, but...)

Also, do NOT go to any off lead parks. In fact, I'd recommend not going to
dog parks in general or letting her off lead outside of your /fenced/ yard.
Anywhere you think an intact male might be, off line, don't go.
