house hunting (semi-OT)
i went out with the real estate agent yesterday, saw some pretty cool
houses. here are the highlights: first house: a Kuvasz came ambling up to greet us as we came up the drive. i offered my hand and he was quite the gentleman, with tail wags and much leaning. the owner proudly told us that the dog had never once been inside the house. poor guy. i petted and hugged him as we walked around the grounds. the house was ok, but i really liked the dog. second house: the neighbors had corgis. i can't remember anything about the house. third house: this is the one. we found a billboard sized "bush/cheney" sign in the shed out back so it's now known as the republican house. it's amazing indoors, has all the amenities (wood stove in master suite, and hot tub on deck!), and is on 2 acres. mostly fenced, with natural woods and gravel paths, a small garden and green house, a shed, and a couple of neat log gates on the paths. pretty sure the dogs would love it. the neighbors have several Aussies. fourth house: we heard pitiful barking and whining from the back. two shorn cockers, in separate kennels. the poor dears, it was only about 35 degrees (F) out there. they were absolutely starving for affection (yes, i gave them pets through their cages). the house wasn't memorable. fifth house: the pink house. very nice interior, and a stunningly landscaped back yard and deck. two acres, one for livestock (they had alpacas) and one for the dogs (grass and pea gravel). this house is second on the list. it was a bit too pricey for the interior quality, but we'll keep it in mind. in the driveway, we were greeted by a BC (or mix thereof) puppy, who was all wiggles and licks and love. the SO had to drag me away from that one, i was ready to take her home with me! i think she lives at the neighbor's. sixth house: new construction, very nice house, huge (3000 sf including basement). smallish ( 3/4 acre) yard and near a major road. would have to put up a serious fence on the street side. very nice, as it's brand new and all. would have to do all landscaping ourselves. didn't see any dogs or fences in the neighborhood. it was kind of close to neighbors (but on a corner, so only on one side). very nice new neighborhood, so i'll have to check for rules banning pit bulls. last house. log home. i was looking forward to this one until we got there. it's in serious disrepair, with mold in the pantry and warped floors. obviously recently flooded. there was a malamute in the SUV in the drive, but no one was home. i didn't pet the Mal. :-( anyway, going to look at a few more this week. it's weird how the houses all blend together, but i can remember which dog lived where. oh, my real estate agent shows and very occasionally breeds Shar Peis. her 5 y/o champion female has a litter on the way, due in three weeks. we have an invite to come play with the pups. i can't wait, Shar Pei puppies are insanely cute! -kelly |
