My name is Harriet, I'm a Boxer who weighs 47 lbs.
When I was 53 lbs, three different vets said
that I was *way* too skinny. So did/do lots of of my fat ass owner's friends and family and even strangers she meets on the street. Most everyone thinks I'm being starved except my fat ass owner. I like to countersurf, because I don't get enough nutrients when my fat ass mommy gives me canned pumpkin to try to fool me from feeling the starvation pangs. My name is Hattie. I weight 47 lbs. How much do you weigh? ================================================== ====== SHELLY IS THE ONLY ONE WHO DOESN'T THINK HATTIE IS STARVING "when i got harriet she was emaciated, so i asked my vet for advice on slowly adding weight to her. six months later i took harriet in for her spring check-up and my vet was surprised that at how thin she still was." --shelly couvrette "raises hand i've been told by three different vets that harriet (53lbs) is *way* too skinny. we're still vet-shopping, BTW." --shelly couvrette "if you really can't resist it when your dog pulls the "i'm starving!" routine G, you can give him some frozen green beans or a small amount of plain pureed pumpkin. i would also suggest putting the food out of his sight. i keep my food--still inside the bags, which are tightly rolled down--inside trash cans in the closed laundry room. that keeps it fresh and keeps it out of my dogs' sight." --shelly couvrette "heh. i get the opposite response. people think that poor little harriet is positively starved to death. i've actually had people stop me in the pet supply shop and tell me that i need to fatten her up!" --shelly couvrette "i think that may be part of the problem. who wants to go to a vet who tells you you're hurting your .widdle precious? i think the other part is that some vets really don't *realize* that what they consider proper weight is fat. after having been told by a couple of vets that my dogs are too thin, i've got a dim view of vets on that topic." --shelly couvrette "my mom is kinda that way, but not *as* bad. she thinks that harriet is awfully skinny, so feeding her table snax is okay. she tells me that just a bite won't hurt." --shelly couvrette NOBODY IS STARVING FAT PIG SHELLY NOBODY WILL STOP SHELLY ON THE STREET AND TELL HER SHE IS STARVING HERSELF shelly's fat face http://home.bluemarble.net/~scouvrette/Wshelly2.jpg ================================================== ===== There are a lot of big fat women on these groups who starve their dogs out of vanity, but shelly is a special case. shelly is moor.e than a little bit beyond the pale Shelly has OCD, and maybe she's just a little obsessive about measuring out extra tiny and discrete portions with a tiny measuring cup, or counting out pieces of green bean or pumpkin that she gives her dogs when they give her the "I'm Starving" routine. When grandma tried to give Hattie a snack, shelly probably went apeshit, because it was in violation of her Obsessive need to oversee every tiny calorie that goes into her widdle precious' mouth. shelly's a special case, a special kind of dog abuser. -- this is michael reporting live... http://dogtv.com BRILLIANT http://dogtv.com/sionnach.wmv |

In Shelly's defense...
I've owned 2 boxers (female, fawn) in my lifetime. Both of them were free-fed, and neither of them EVER weighed more than 50lbs. One of them was lucky to weigh in at 45lbs. My dogs (different litters, different times in my life) always had food in their dishes, were fed table scraps, and had no other health problems. No vet ever commented on them being too skinny. Some boxers just don't get that big. I wish my babies got bigger but it just wasn't meant to be. |

And that was before she was starved out of another 12% of her body weight. I hope that heelps. Some boxers just don't get that big. I wish my babies got bigger but it just wasn't meant to be. that's Boxers for you G. aesthetically, i would've preferred a bigger boned dog with a broader chest, but that was, of course, at the bottom of my wish list. what i got was a petite girl. that's fine with me. i'm not going to try to turn her into something she's not by fattening her up like a Strasbourg goose. she's lean because she's well conditioned, not because she's starved. too bad Michael doesn't understand the difference, because it's his dogs who suffer the consequences. i haven't seen recent pictures of them (he's a net kook, so i try to ignore him), but the last pictures i saw of his Chessie mix were of an obviously overweight and out-of-shape dog. -- shelly (perfectly foul wench) and elliott and harriet http://home.bluemarble.net/~scouvrette |

Your dogs get *NO* meaningful exercise. Not 5% of what mine get. You keep them "in shape" and "conditioned" by starving them, and not walking or exercising them and in any meaningful way, instead, sitting on your fat hypocrite dog-starving ass spending your entire life hypocritiquing others on usenet. You're a horrible dog owner. You're insane, you have OCD and you are obsessed with your dog's weight, or you wouldn't constantly bring it up (or, should I say, fans, bring it DOWN). GET SOME HEELP. "raises hand i've been told by three different vets that
harriet (53lbs) is *way* too skinny. we're still vet-shopping, BTW." Most show boxer bitches (within standard size) weigh in the range of 55 lbs. That's an entirely normal weight for a proper sized bitch. If she's significantly smaller obviously she'd weigh less. You should be able to see a trace of rib when they move. Boxers are not mastiffs, and they're not Rottweilers. They're supposed to be agile and quick, not plodding beasts of 90 lbs. I had the opposite problem with a vet caring for a puppy I placed. The mom told me that people in class had told her the puppy was too skinny, but her vet said not to listen -- she was just perfect the way she was. I stopped by for a quick visit and was APPALLED by what I saw. The poor baby was truly emaciated -- skin and bones. She looked worse than any rescue I'd ever dealt with, and comparing her with her littermates back at my house made me want to cry. I told her in no uncertain terms the pup was starving and I didn't care what the vet said -- if he thought that was okay, he was INSANE. I brought over my pups and showed her that even with more weight on them they were still fit and we got her off puppy food and she gained and grew and now she's a solid mass of boxer muscle, and when they look at pictures they can't believe they couldn't see what was so plain to everybody but their vet. kassa |
