Default Tragic Situation

This morning my husband found one of his best friends dead in his home.
Scott & Amie had gone to this guy's house Saturday night for the big Clemson
v. Carolina game and all was well. Sometime between 9pm Saturday night and
early Sunday morning, the man's boarder (my husband's newest employee) must
have murdered him. The boarder and the friend's new truck have been missing
since Sunday morning (well we know the truck hasn't been there since then
and the logical assumption is that the boarder stole it).

After not returning calls or showing up for work yesterday, Scott went to
his friend's house to check on him because this guy is not the type to blow
off work or not return calls. He knew something wasn't right because
Mullet, the 6yo Lab was barking wildly. He called the police who came and
let him go in the house, where he found his friend dead. Poor Mullet has
been locked in the house for 2 days with his dead owner (the man was one of
the nicest you'll ever meet, would give the shirt off his back for anyone
who needed it, and was a true bachelor-and-his-dog type in his mid-30s).

I had to coax Mullet to my car and this is probably the first time I can say
that I've literally seen an entire facial expression of pure sadness in a
Lab. It wasn't just the eyes but everything about him. Mullet is at my
house until we find out what our friend's family wants to do. They still
don't know. They live out of state and will be getting a call, 2 days
before Thanksgiving, telling them that their son is dead.

Mullet seems to be perking up a little after being in Fancy's wild company
for a few hours. She has no clue about what happened so she's all about
playing & body slamming. He seems to be responding to her but he won't eat
or drink and when he's in the house (he keeps begging to be in the
backyard), he just lays on my feet under the desk. Be thankful this
Thanksgiving that you have your life and your pets have you. I never would
have imagined this happening to someone I know, let alone someone who made
friends without trying and who led a calm and happy lifestyle. I'm sure
Mullet will be ok because dogs are resilient and they have no choice but to
be ok but his future, where he'll live, who he'll live with, is uncertain.
