Default Color me trichromatic

This is an intriguing article on vision in primates -- and, of course,
I wondered how it applies to dogs and cats.
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...keyvision.html
When I feel sorry for my dogs not being able to appreciate their new
bright-red toy, I'll remember the suggestion at the end of the article
that color vision can be a handicap to a predator, interfering with
their ability to distinguish shapes and forms.
Does anyone know of a comparison between the vision of dogs and cats?
