Default Looking for Giant Schnauzer

Either a puppy or a youngish rescue dog. Must be good with small children
(4-7). Will have access to a very large, safe yard. Salt and pepper female
would be ideal, but open to other available dogs. .This will be a pet (not
a show dog). I live in the Northeast.

Please email me directly if you know of a suitable pet.

Thanks,

Stacey

There are tons of GS available - probably unfortunately for the breed. Have
you done a search for clubs, breeders, kennels etc?
You should be able with a little careful homework, to find a responsible
breeder in your area.
Make sure however, that you "do" do your homework thoroughly as to what a
"responsible" breeder is all about. The breed has many major genetic
problems so should you find puppies where the breeder has not had his stock
health tested and for at least a few generations in the pedigee - up front,
then I'd run as fast as I could and find another.
Orthopedic problems, CHD, eye problems very common.
If you haven't had the breed before, be prepared for a very high energy dog,
who "needs" a job of work and to be kept busy. They are not a dog to lie
around the house and play only when you want him to. Definitely not a dog to
be banished to the yard or they will invent plenty to keep themselves busy
and it won't something you would probably want.
They are a working dog through and through and can become very aggressive
and guardy if not carefully directed.
Also be prepared to learn to groom or pay a pro to do it every six weeks.
They are a pretty high maintenance breed.
Fun to be sure if you are willing to invest a great deal of time into the
breed.
