Default Submissive behavior? Baring teeth

We have a 5mo pup here (half St. Bernard) who's very friendly tho a bit
submissive.

If you call him, he approaches kinda sideways, ears down, head to one side,
acts like he'll flop onto his back at the slightest excuse.

At the same time, he wrinkles his nose to bare his top front teeth. Looks
really odd.

I've never seen a dog do this before. Is it part of the submissive
behavior?
