Fence-fighting and leash aggression
Could it be bad doggy-manners to refuse an invitation to fence fight
or to display no reaction to on-leash aggression? Some well-socialized dogs seem to make a 'pro forma' reaction, as if they were fulfilling a duty. And dogs' reaction to Mac, who reacts to them not at all unless they are an immediate threat, is interesting. They seem deflated and regard him with a disapponted look. We're still looking for ways to reduce the stress of fence-fighting at our cramped little shelter. We just received a large bequest which will allow us to do considerable remodeling, but may not let us expand. |

We have Shor-line kennels and they are very nice (but not cheap - we have a campaign to "sponsor" a kennel. *I* have a dog kennel and a cat cage). You may want to consider such a campaign. Franklin ignores the dobe behind us who wants to fence fight. Lucy plays into her big time though, so I guess she feels satisfied, or at least at the 50% level! It really reduces the stress to have solid
panels between the dogs. We have concrete block between the dogs up to 6'. The problem is, we don't have enough room to lead dogs past at a distance from the front of the runs. =A0 We have Shor-line kennels and they are very nice (but not cheap Don't know those. I'll do a search. |

Oh, my gosh, Janet. Not to be insulting, but a glimpse at the
Shor-line website broke my heart! Our animals have much better accommodations than that. The 'urine trap' feature was depressing. If a dog relieves itself in the run, our dog walkers beat themselves up for not being on their toes. (We get an occasional complaint from adoptors that the dog they chose isn't housetrained. We don't know because they're taken out so often.) |
