Today's Bananas are susceptible to disease and unable to reproduce without human participation in the process. Lack of genetic diversity has driven the common Banana to the brink of extinction. Banana-killing pathogens have gone global, and experts agree it is very unlikely that bananas will be on supermarket shelves a decade from now. I fully expect that the same could happen to many breeds of dogs. Charlie -snip- Now that is a nice urban myth, with a grain of truth in it, that's true. There is some disease that might spread and kill the entire population of the most common and popular banana, but there are dozens of other bananas that taste almost the same that are immune to this "plague". I myself usually try to buy one of those kinds of bananas, so for me it doesn't make a big difference if the "standard" banana dies or isn't worth growing anymore. Rosa |
