both times she's done it, she's not broken skin, but bruised me. i caught her immediately (she didn't have the chance to run off), leashed her, and that was the end of playtime. we walked nicely home, and that was the end of it. is this a reasonable way to handle things? is there something better i could be doing? Yes, you basically have the theory down. Inappropriate behavior = end of play. If play ends consistently every time you feel teeth on you, she will eventually get the connection and learn to inhibit her mouth. But don't expect her to "get" it too quickly. She's not thinking about nipping - she's wound up, and it's an instinctive behavior. It can take a while to break a habit like this. Keep being consistent, persistent, and patient. :} PetsMart Pet Trainer My Kids, My Students, My Life: http://hometown.aol.com/dfrntdrums/m...age/index.html Last updated June 27 at 10:00 a.m. |
