Default dog's body temp

Hubby loves to cuddle close at night, but I usually find it way too hot.
The kidlets, alone or in tandem, seem to be able to generate the heat of
small suns. So why is one of the most comfortable things around having
Macula curl up next to me when we nap?

Do dogs have a lower body temp than humans, or is there another explanation
for this phenominum?
