The Ghost of Christmas Past
Have you ever _not adopted a dog who continues to haunt you?
After my OES died, my first tentative step was to a municipal shelter. Knew what I wanted: a dog similar to, but not exactly like, Ralphie. There he was, listed as 'OES/Airedale'. When I approached the kennel, he ran outside; when I went out there, he ran back, barking. More ignorant then than now, I feared he would be a fear-aggressive monster I couldn't control, so I left. Dreamed about him the other night. It's been 12 years. DoG bless us, every one. |
