The only thing on the page is a short article about dogs with learned fear issues. It's a good article, but irrelevant to the subject of rage syndrome as far as I can see. |

Carol, these are excellent articles. In recent years all of the
American Cockers but one in our basic obedience classes have been quite normal. The one exception, red/golden, rescue male, was just a brat, and by the end of the course was much improved.... the owner mostly needed validation that her approach to household management was correct. The one dog that we've worked with that later had an episode that seemed to be rage came to us with owner claims of minor attacks on them since early puppyhood. It was a Dandy Dinmont from a puppymill/pet store... male, neutered. He was quite normal in class and did well for a year after graduation. The wife was sitting on the floor, playing a favorite game with the dog, moving a toy on the floor and rolling it away now and then... dog retrieving it to her. When she was moving the toy on the floor, the dog suddenly launched and tore up her forearm in a driving, repeated biting attack.... eyes glazed, disconnected from the environment. The husband and teenage son grabbed the dog and literally tossed him outside to the patio, where he continued to attack the legs of furniture for some 5 minutes before subsiding and lieing down. He was euthanized the next day. They have subsequently purchased two other Dandies from reputable breeders.... nary a problem with aggression or misdirected prey drive in a number of years. Sounds like that Dandie may have had a brain tumour or something.
That is sad. One of our rescues had to be pts by his owner due to excessive biting. They had an autopsy done and a brain tumour was found. They had only had him for about 4 months. -- Carol J Cocker Spaniel Rescue of BC www.csrbc.org "Jo Wolf" wrote in message ... Carol, these are excellent articles.
