cat scratch..in eye
Last night my Lhasa Apso was scratched in the eye by our cat, we have an
appointment to take him to the vet this afternoon. Every vet that I called said that he could lose the eye,so of course I am very concerned and was wondering if anyone has had experience with this? His eye is watery and he is keeping it closed, he is not acting like himself, just kinda laying around but I am sure it hurts pretty bad. I have washed the eye out a couple of times and clipped the hair around his eye so that it does not get in the eye.Anyway I would love to hear some experiences from others...hopefully some with happy endings for the dog...(the cat is being declawed on the 1st) Michelle |

Sorry to hear about that. (I guess the cat won? Until the 1st.) Have not
had experience personally, but hopefully the globe is just scratched, not punctured. "Joe and Michelle Lyson" wrote in message ... This person also took it as a wake up call to TRIM her cat's nails and apply SOFT PAWS NAIL CAPS. Though she included declaw surgery for the cat as one of her options when the shock was still new, she soon realized that such a radical amputation (http://maxshouse.com/facts_about_declawing.htm) was not necessary when most cats can be trained to accept a painless nail trim that leaves their claws completely harmless. (If you trim the entire "hook" off of the claw, it will slide over fabric and flesh alike without any damage done.) If the cat in question does not accept the frequent trim (a few claws every couple of weeks), Soft Paws (http://www.softpaws.com/) require only a quick trim of the tip of the nail and an application of the vinyl sheath that keeps the nail totally harmless for weeks at a time. I'm so sorry to hear about your dog, but I really hope that you can find a better solution than declaw surgery for the cat. Best of luck, Alison in OH |

When my dog was a puppy, he was scratched in the eye by the cat. Walked
around with a half closed eye for a few days and then he was OK.( Problem with cat's claws is they are full of nasty germs so any scratch is likely to be infected.) Gained a healthy respect for the cat though. Are you serious about declawing the cat ? Seems a bit extreme as the cat's claws are it's main defence both to attack and escape up trees from attackers. I'm not even sure a vet would perform the operation over here. Hope the dog's OK. JL "Joe and Michelle Lyson" wrote in message ... The vet said they would declaw the at...we have only had the cat for about a
week. My daughter found it and brought it home...It has also tried to attack the guinea pigs and has swatted at one of the other cats...So unless we can find a home for the cat it will have to be declawed to live in peace here...it will not be an out door cat ...we live to close to a road... Subject: cat scratch..in eye
From: "Joe and Michelle Lyson" Date: 8/18/03 1:26 PM Pacific Anyway I would love to hear some experiences from others...hopefully some with happy endings for the dog...(the cat is being declawed on the 1st) My Kevin had a scratch from a cat once, it WAS very painful and my regular vet referred us to an eye doc. A word of caution: if you're regular vet wants to give you a cortisone product for the eye do get a second opinion. These can slow the healing process on the cornea and at times make it worse. We got antibiotics only and the eye was fine after a week or so. Deb Shi the Svelte Georgie, Scurry-Stalker & Baby Lover Hank the Tank |
