Thyroid pills?
After a period of pronounced lack of energy, our Border Collie/Bernese Mtn.
Dog was diagnosed with a thyroid problem. The solution from our vet were pills called "Synthroid .8", twice a day. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, does anyone know of a good place to get this prescription more cheaply than our vet? Our dog will need them the rest of his life (which hopefully will be many more years)... Thanks in advance, Mitch |

Soloxine has been very inexpensive to purchase so I'm not sure why the Synthroid would be expensive. Synthroid is also a human drug so you should be able to get a quote from your local pharmacy on the product. If its cheaper then try asking your vet to phone your prescription in there. The medication is definitely needed as directed though. The use of a thyroid pill can make a drastic difference in the way your dog feels and acts. -- Tara |

The prices you're paying are consistent with what I pay here in the Finger Lakes (Ithaca, NY). The one exception is the thyroid medication, which is 5x more than I was paying. If you'd like to get the price down, ask your vet about alternatives. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Fascism should more properly be called 'corporatism,' since it is the marriage of government and corporate power. -- Benito Mussolini |
