Default dog chewing he paw raw.

My mixed Lab - Rotweiller chews her paw occassionallyuntil it's raw and
swollen. We have to put a cone on her head so she'll stop shewing for a few
weeks until it heals. Several months later, she starts again.

The vet gives her anitbiotics and sometimes a steroid shot.

The problem is it she keeps doing it over and over and the vet costs several
hundred dollars every visit - this is getting out of control.

She is mixed-breed as above, she's an inside dog who is taken out often but
not walked very far, but loved very much.

Any ideas?
